Activists and members of the Jordanian Committee for the Protection of the Homeland and Anti-Normalization, gathered in front of Al Kaluti Mosque on Tuesday to voice their anger over the Wadi Araba peace treaty, which was signed on October 26, 1994 between Jordan and Israel.
"Accepting the Wadi Araba Treaty is a considered recognition of the Zionist entity and a formal withdrawal of the central cause of the Arabs [the Palestinian cause]," said Secretary General of the Islamic Action Front (IAF) Hamzah Mansour.
The activists also urged people to boycott Israeli products, Xinhua reported.
Protesters also chanted slogans to support the Palestinians in their adamant will to prevail over the Israeli atrocities in the Palestinian territories and the "racist policies exercised by the Israeli enemy."
The demonstration was also attended by Chief of the IAF Shura Council, Ali ABu Sukkar, who sharply criticized the peace agreement, saying the passage of the treaty has proved fruitless and detrimental to Jordan's economy
He further stated that the treaty opposition movement has resonated well among Jordanians in dealing with the Zionist entity.
Jordan was the second Arab state to sign a peace treaty with Israel.
Egypt signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1979.
